Collection: Llael McDonald

Following the success of her debut solo exhibition at Compendium Gallery, we are thrilled to welcome Llael McDonald back for her second show, Lambent. Named after a word meaning "softly glowing", the exhibition continues her poetic exploration of still life through symbolism, rich colour, and quiet intensity. Lemons reappear as central motifs—twisted in martinis, hand-peeled, or served with tea—alongside her signature oysters, all rendered with moody lighting and painterly depth. Each piece invites viewers to pause and find beauty in everyday rituals.

Llael’s work is known for its nostalgic, emotive quality, elevating domestic objects with a sense of memory and meaning. Raised in Spotswood, Melbourne, she studied under artist Terri Matassonni at the Independent College of Art and Design, graduating in 1996 with a top portfolio. We’re proud to present her distinctive vision once again and celebrate her ability to make the ordinary glow.
